August 2, 2010: Bodrum, Turkey to Heilbronn, Germany
Excellent Coffee in Istanbul International Airport at 3:30am
If you have been following the story so far, Karalee, David, and Allen Greer, along with Allen's niece Sharra Peasley have just spent a week sailing in Turkey on the catamaran Van Kedisi. We left Van Kedisi at 11:00 pm in the evening to take the bus to Bodrum. Our 2:00 am flight put us into Istanbul at 3:00 am where we found a coffee shop open at 3:30 in the morning. In fact, they made amazingly good coffee. We continued on through the night to Frankfurt, Germany with one or two hours sleep. We then picked up a van and drove south to Heilbronn, Germany.
For the next week, Heilbronn was home to 42 teams from over twenty countries competing in the World Junior Frisbee Championships 2010. Our son, Kevin Greer, is playing for the Team Canada Men's team. We are spending the week watching Team Canada play while we explore the area around Heilbronn.
After catching a couple hours of sleep, we walked over to the stadium where the tournament was being hosted. That evening all the teams walked into the stadium as the championship tournament was opened. There were welcoming speeches, a fabulous singer, flying helicopters, and by the time the singer took center stage once again she was swarmed by players giving her flags and memorabilia from their country. It was a spectacular and high energy start to the tournament.
