Jocelyn Graduates from UBC

Jocelyn on Graduation Day

On May 31, 2011 Jocelyn received a BSc with Honors from the Faculty of Land and Food Science in the Global Resource Systems program. Her areas of study were sustainable farming and global food supply with a focus on Latin America. All of Jocelyn's Grandparents flew in for the big day, as did other family friends, and we all got to attend the ceremony at UBC's Chan Center and have a celebration dinner at our house afterwards.

Allen and Sports

Allen (in red) Ready to Throw

Allen has just completed Grade 10 in the International Baccalaureate program at Britannia Secondary. He played soccer, basketball, and ultimate frisbee this year. His Junior Ultimate Frisbee team was fourth in the province of BC and Allen was awarded the Junior Male Athlete of the Year Award.

This summer, Allen made the BC Alternate Ultimate Frisbee team (called Misfits). His team will be going to Ottawa in August to play in junior tournament at the Canadian National Ultimate Frisbee Championships.

Karalee Keeps Dragonboating

Karalee After A Race

Karalee has joined Team Momentum for the second year as a Dragonboat paddler. Team Momentum is an all woman team with participants ranging from 45 to 72 years old. They practice in Vancouver's False Creek twice a week and take part in Dragonboat Regattas. The photo above was taken at the Tinto Alcan Dragonboat Festival where they placed second in their division.

Karalee has been busy looking after the family, attending events, and working on her writing. She is active with two different writing groups and recently completed a draft of her second book.

David's Photography

People up to Their Knees Fishing

David has been busy with a business client that has seen him doing a lot of research, writing, and some traveling. He has also been working on a new photo set on Flickr with sailing photographs. It was ten years ago this week that the Greer Family left on our Two Year Mediterranean Adventure. The photo above shows the shallows next to the Port Napoleon marina in Port Saint Louis du Rhone, France where we commissioned Dragonsinger. This photo and many old and new ones are in the new Sailing photo set.

Kevin, School, and Ultimate

Kevin In Our Garden

Kevin successfully completed his second year at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He is studying Management Information Systems and taking a minor degree in Computer Science.

This summer, Kevin is continuing to work part time for the UBC Information Technology department doing technical support. He is also playing for the Blackfish Ultimate Frisbee Team and hopes that they will make it to the Canadian National Ultimate Frisbee Championships, the same tournament that Allen is going to.

Kevin played for the UBC Ultimate Frisbee team this year. In May, UBC won the Pacific Northwest College Ultimate Frisbee Championship. This was the first time ever that UBC Ultimate won the Pacific Northwest Championship. The team traveled to Boulder, Colorado and placed ninth in the US College National Ultimate Frisbee Championships.

With Jocelyn's graduation, sports tournaments, and Allen wrapping up Grade Ten we have all been busy. We have also been volunteering at Dragonboat Festivals, the Easter Seals WAVES Sailing Regatta, and we helped feed 1,200 runners at the Thunderbird Sports Club Longest Day Race. We are all looking forward to changing pace as summer arrives. We hope that you are too.
