July 11, 2001: London, Paris, and a Birthday
53 Rutland Gate, London
We made it away from Vancouver, but the last minute rush to get everything finished was just as we expected. We arrived in London and got set up in our flat at 53 Rutland Gate. It was great having an apartment where we could spread out, do our own cooking, and keep up with the laundry. We might be visiting one of the most famous cities in the world, but the daily chores of a family of five continue no matter where we are.
While in London we had a nice walk along the Thames River the town of Staines. We created a small virtual walk of our tour.
David started a daily diary. Reading the diary will give you a feel for our trip, but only the most interested reader will manage to read through all of his daily reports. We have not updated the picture section of the Web site, but you can view many photographs by doing a quick tour of David's diary.
Jocelyn turned twelve just after we arrived in Paris. This will be the first of many special events that we will celebrate during our year away.
Everyone is healthy and thriving. Life continues much as normal -- we still have to eat three meals a day and do the laundry. But there is a special feeling to be doing such normal everyday things in a completely new environment.
