Ajaccio, Corsica

Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Old Town is located right next to the Vieux Port and is tiny compared to modern Ajaccio. The tiny streets lead to Cathédrale Ste-Marie, the place where Napoleon was baptised. Outside of the Old Town, the buildings on Cours Grandval remind us of London. The tall imposing structures built of stone have an elegance that looks more English than French. The rest of the town has beautiful pastel-coloured Mediterranean buildings.

Parade
Parade

Jocelyn and I spent time exploring the town and before we had gone far we heard the sound of music. Following our ears we stumbled upon a spring Parade running through the middle of Ajaccio. We always enjoy these accidents where we end up at the right place and time for a local event. Jocelyn and I watched as float after float, many filled with children, casually slipped past us, all with music blaring. Everyone was having fun. Parents were following floats and taking video pictures of their dressed-up children. We followed the end of the parade to the beach before strolling back to Dragonsinger.

Allen At Night

As darkness falls Allen and I leave the dishes to Jocelyn and Kevin and go exploring the breakwater and walls of the fort. It's special to be able to spend time together, exploring, jumping, climbing, and just hanging out in a new place that we've never been to before.
