School In Lanmerin, France

Lanmerin is the closest village to where we are staying, a tiny blip in the countryside. We have not done school since leaving the south of the Netherlands, so this week we have to stay disciplined and get a lot of work done. It is interesting how this year any place we stop becomes a schoolroom. Kitchen tables, the living room, bedrooms -- almost anywhere becomes our school.

Allen's schoolwork is organized into themes. His current theme is the circus. This afternoon, Jocelyn worked with Allen to create Jocelyn and Allen's Wonderful Circus Performance. After school we all sat around and were treated to Ringmaster Jocelyn as she presented the following acts:

  • Tiger
  • Tight-Rope Walker
  • Rabbit
  • Tight-rope Backwards Walker
  • Frog
  • Balance Beam
  • Basketball shootout
Allen was kept busy, as he was the central character in all of the acts. It was fun, energetic, and an interesting example of how we all work together to make school days more interesting.
