Hammersmith Bridge, the first suspension bridge in London (1827).
Take a walk along the
Thames River from Hammersmith to Chiswick Bridge
in London,
England.
This is an enjoyable two-to-three hour walk along tow paths
on both sides of the
Thames.
This walk follows the itinerary of walks 50 and 51 of
100 Walks in Greater London.
To start the walk, take the Piccadilly line to Hammersmith Station. Leave Hammersmith Station to the south and pass under the A4 fly-way. Head west until you come to Hammersmith Bridge Road, turn left and go south to Hammersmith Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn right and head along the tow path heading west.
If you have ever taken the Piccadilly line from Heathrow Airport to Central London, the Hammersmith Station is one of the last that is above ground (you then plunge into darkness of underground tunnels for the rest of your trip). If you have taken a taxi into Central London, you pass Hammersmith Station on the A4 fly-way.
