Ye Olde Kings Head Inn
Across from St. Mary's church is Ye Olde Kings Head Inn. The
facade in the picture above might suggest that you can enter the Inn
from the main street. After a certain amount of wandering along the
facade, we finally concluded that the entrace to the Inn is around
the back as can be seen below.
Ye Olde Kings Head Inn Entrance
Our walking plan for the day was to stop at Ye Olde Kings Head Inn for
lunch, so the lack of an entrace on the main street provided a moment
of consternation. The Inn was a nice place to stop for lunch, but it also
has a few stories to tell. It is widely believed that the Inn was used
by Dickens as inspiration for 'The Maypole' in Barnaby Rudge.
