Grosvenor Railway Bridge and Battersea Power Station
In 1860, Grosvenor Bridge, the first railway bridge over the
Thames in London, was opened. The bridge delivered trains to
the new Victoria Station.
Battersea Power Station
Behind the bridge is Battersea
Power Station. The station started suppling electricity to
London in 1933 (using two of the four chimneys that you can
see in the previous picture). The power station continued expanding,
but was not completed until 1953. A listed building,
Battersea Power Station
was closed in 1983. There have been various
development proposals for the site, but none had been
approved as of 1997.
