October 26, 2012: Sinua to Chhomrong
If you have been following our journey carefully, you may have noticed that there is a day missing. We believe that the tea David had in Deurali must have had a bug in it. At 4:00 am yesterday, David was up being sick. He continued to be sick all day and as a result there are no photos of the day. In fact, David found the hike from Himalaya to Sinua to be one of the biggest challenges in his life. Eating nothing all day, he climbed almost a 1,000 steps after lunch by doing ten, stopping, and then doing ten more.
Our camp in Sinua was right next to the trail, so people were going by our tents all the time. David felt better today and the plan was for only a half day of hiking. As we left Sinua we could look directly across the mountain valley and see Chhomrong, our destination for the night. As had previously experienced, the route from Sinua to Chhomrong goes down 1,000m to a valley bottom, across a river, and then up a 1,000m on the other side. The final approach to Chhomrong takes you up 1,000 steps. We know because Jan, Judy, and Karalee counted them.
Arriving before lunch, we had the afternoon to sleep, catch up on our writing, do shopping and take photos. David made it, but was still feeling sick and exhausted from the hike down and up, so he took the afternoon to rest. We ate dinner in our tent and as usual many of our group retired to their tents at 7:30 pm. A few of us stayed in the dining tent and lit only by candle light visited and played crib until 9:30 pm, when we all turned in for the night.
