Exploring Argostoli, Cephalonia, Greece

Plateia Valianou
Plateia Valianou (Central Square of Argostoli)

We slept away most of yesterday afternoon. This is normal after a long passage where you never completely make up for the loss of sleep during night watches. Today we ventured further into Argostoli to discover the lovely squares and streets of this modern town.

Many of the towns on Cephalonia, including Argostoli, were levelled to the ground in an earthquake in 1953. The town has been rebuilt since then with bright coloured modern looking buildings. It is early in the year, so only a few tourists are out, mixing it up with the locals.

Yesterday, after an afternoon sleep, I had energy after dinner. Jocelyn and I visited the central square and sat outside in the mild weather having a drink at a cafe. Where the cafe had been empty during the day it was full at night. We stayed up past midnight watching the local people arrive, visit, and leave. We've only been here a day, but we are starting to like the place.
