Kilimnos to Kos, Greece
Dragonsinger in Kilimnos
We plan to travel today, but we are going to Kos which is only ten or fifteen nautical miles away. I spend an hour at the local chandlery buying some parts for Dragonsinger. One thing I create is a nylon rope bridal for the anchor. Because nylon stretches, unlike chain, I'm hoping that the bridal will make the motion on Dragonsinger gentler when we are anchored in heavy winds. Karalee and Jocelyn do some shopping and we find a local music store where we buy some popular Greek CDs.
Charter Boat
After lunch we pull out of Kilimnos. As we leave the harbour a couple of tour boats filled with sun baked tourists motor back into the harbour. We motor the short distance to Kos. The Meltemi has died down for the first time in days and we spot a large beach on the side of Kos. We motor towards the beach and anchor in 8m of water off a large hotel complex. I go swimming with the kids to cool off from the 40C heat. The water is crystal clear and we can see the weed and sand that cover the bottom.
Sunset in Kos
After our swim we all climb back onboard Dragonsinger, dry off and then continue on our way to Kos. We round the island, pass the old harbour of Kos, and continue on to the marina. We are met by a high speed dinghy which guides us into a spot in the marina. With large cement docks, modern buildings, and power at every slip, we feel that this is the nicest marina that we have seen in Greece. We explore the marina before I start dinner and as we sit down in the cockpit to eat the sun slowly sinks below the horizon.
