School and Visiting Ciutadella

Ferry
Ferry Fills the Harbour

With the weekend over, even if we spent all of it traveling, it is the start of another school day. Recess was called when the ferry left the harbour and the bright yellow colors towered over Dragonsinger. The ferry passed less than a boat length away in the narrow cala where we are moored. We all sat outside and wondered how the pilot managed to navigate such a narrow channel. We now know why the pilot guide warned us of lights at the cala entrance that when lit meant clear out of the harbour. We certainly wouldn't have wanted to meet a ferry coming or going when we moored yesterday.

Cathedral
Cathedral

Before lunch we walked into the old town and visited the cathedral. Until 1722 Ciutadella was both the administrative capital of Menorca and the see of a bishop. In 1722, the British transferred administration to Mahón, but left the bishop in Ciutadella.

Allen was taken with the bright colors cast on the stone floor by the stained glass windows. We toured the cathedral and enjoyed the age-old stones and the peace, quiet, and coolness of the church. We then explored more of the old town, before doing grocery shopping. Then it was time to walk home in the heat. Arriving back at Dragonsinger tired and hungry, we had a quick lunch before finishing our school day. It was still nice enough that I walked with Jocelyn and Kevin to the head of the nearby Cala d'es Frares where they both had a swim before returning to Dragonsinger after a fulfilling day.
