Museau d'Història de la Ciutat
Plaça Rei
Jocelyn's Grade Seven social studies is focused on Roman history. After a busy morning at school, we headed out to make history real. Our goal was Museau d'Història de la Ciutat. This is Barcelona's city museum and one of the most interesting in the city. The entire Plaça Rei has been excavated and then covered over to provide a subterranean walk through Roman Barcelona.
Before we knew it we were walking along two-thousand year old stone walls. Jocelyn asked "can I touch these?". In a moment, she traveled from the textbook to real life as she touched walls more than two thousand years old. We continued through the museum seeing areas where fabrics were dyed, the wine making area, and viewing mosaics that have survived generations. What a fabulous way to bring history to life.
