Touring and Shopping In Alicante
Plaza de los Luceros
A new port always means one thing -- it is time to explore. Karalee and I left the kids onboard Dragonsinger and set off to see Alicante. The marina is modern and efficient, and Alicante seemed to follow the mold. A wide pedestrian walkway followed the ocean front. Next to the marina is a large sandy beach. We visited Tourist Information to get our bearings and to find out where to do grocery shopping. With three growing children, it is a constant struggle to keep the boat filled with supplies.
Karalee Enjoying The Sunshine
The day was bright as we went here and there exploring the streets of Alicante. The city was busy with both people and vehicles, but along the Ramblas (a long pedestrian street that runs through the middle of the city) we stopped at Plaza de los Luceros to smell the flowers and soak up the sunshine. The Dragonsinger crew are still recovering from our long overnight passage and it will be another day or so before we've fully recovered. In the meantime, we find a large market and fill our bags with as much as we can carry. The store is more than a kilometer from the marina, so it is a long walk back loaded with food. Living without a car, as many people in Europe do, let's us know how challenging simple things like shopping can be.
