Tréguier, France
Cathédrale St-Tugdual
Earlier this week we took a day off school to visit the nearby areas of Brittany. Home schooling offers us this flexibility, but it also offers us other bonuses. Today the children were finished school by early afternoon. Since we will be leaving Brittany tomorrow, we decided to take a couple of hours and visit the nearby town of Tréguier. We had driven through this town on our first day in Brittany, but we had not taken the time to stop.
We visited Cathédrale St-Tugdual, which dates from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The patron saint of the Cathédrale is St. Yves and inside there is an impressive monument with the tomb of the Saint. After visiting the inside of the church, we then went outside and visited the cloisters. This enclosed area attached to the church had a pretty garden, views of the Cathédrale, and interesting arches.
Allen Enjoys Tréguier
After the Cathédrale visit we shopped along the main street, then stopped for ice cream. Allen kept himself entertained by riding the one and only playground toy that was in evidence on the main street. For our long drive tomorrow we bought a bag of traditional cookies from Brittany. They are thin, sweet, and crisp butter cookies about two inches in diameter. With a ten hour drive tomorrow, we're sure to need the cookies a few times to try and calm down restless children and adults.
