Ile Pomègues, France
Swimming at Port du Pomègues
Today dawned bright and clear with little wind. We left Carry Le-Rouet to go to the island of Ile Pomègues. We stopped at Port du Pomègues, which our cruising guide said was suitable for anchoring overnight. The head of the bay was quite protected, but it is now occupied by a fish farming operation, making it less than ideal as an overnight anchorage than the guide would suggest.
We anchored for lunch and with the warm temperatures we decided to have a swim. The Mediterranean Sea is currently 20C, about the same temperature as the ocean near Vancouver in the summer. The water is cold, but if you keep moving around one can get used to it. We played around before lunch, tested all of our snorkeling equipment, and had lunch in the cockpit as we enjoyed the sunny day.
Port du Frioul
After lunch we spent more time swimming, then it was time to find a more secure anchorage for the night. We motored for fifteen to twenty minutes into Port du Frioul and after a bit of exploration we tied up to the main quay off the harbour entrance. Our warm fall day ended with a spectacular sunset over the harbour, which we sat and enjoyed from the cockpit. It may be late October, but the weather has been mild, letting us enjoy summer-like conditions late into the fall.
