Martignes, France
Martignes Harbour
Situated between the sea and the Etang de Berre (a large inland lake), Martignes is a tiny island known as Venise provençale. Canals surround the tiny island and the picturesque village is a gem to see. After a morning at school, we were ready to venture out to explore the village and its charms.
Saint-Julien-Les-Martigues
Whether it was the bright Saint-Julien-Les-Martigues church, the narrow streets, the building facades, or the constant boat traffic, we enjoyed our visit. The sky was bright blue, providing contrast to the painted buildings and we stopped to watch the fisherman travel up and down the canal looking for the daily catch. After a week in Port St. Louis du Rhone, we were ready for a break and Martignes provided us with a special afternoon that we'll always treasure.
