November 4, 2011: Final Day in Kathmandu

There was more exploring arranged for our visit in Kathmandu, but a few of the group were worn out and ready to just sleep in and take the day off yesterday. David was one of those who stayed behind and he explored Kathmandu taking photos and having lunch at Mike's Breakfast, a local restaurant that you would only find if you had a guide book or a local. In the evening, the group returned to Thamel for our final dinner together.

Today Karalee and David returned to Thamel, the area we first visited when we arrived in Kathmandu and stayed at the Nirvana Garden Hotel. Karalee and David did more shopping at Pilgrims Books. They then found a tailor where Karalee was able to buy some Nepalese fabric to take back to her Mom in Cranbrook, BC. We also saw a local school in Thamel where we peeked through the open front gate. Children were playing in the front yard and they looked like school children we've seen around the world. When we cast our gaze up to the school building, all we saw was a cement building without walls where children were lined up to see their teachers. It was another reminder of the education challenges in Nepal.

After shopping much of the day a few of our group had massages at the hotel spa. In the early evening we took a bus to the Kathmandu airport where we boarded a Dragonair flight to Hong Kong that left Kathmandu at 11:30 pm.
